Ashes Of The Damned Easter Egg Guide, All Steps

By Joemet123 ·

Work In Progress: This guide is still being checked and expanded, so some details may change.

Every step of the Ashes of the Damned main quest Easter egg, in order: the four Tesse upgrade parts, the purple clock trials and the Veytharion boss fight. The video above covers the same steps in under 10 minutes.

The tools for this map are on the Ashes of the Damned tools page: the full map cheat sheet, the blood ritual chalkboard code, the rocket launch code, the projector reels and the Necrofluid Gauntlet solver.

Tesse: The 4 Upgrade Parts

Part 1: Tedd's Head

  1. Melee the panel in the server room at spawn to pick up Tedd.
  2. Build him directly on Tesse for initial access to her.

Part 2: Pack-A-Punch

  1. Progress to power either the Farm or the Blackwater generator to open Ashwood.
  2. Turn on Ashwood's generator to open the garage below.
  3. Drive Tesse inside and build Pack-a-Punch at the crafting station.

Part 3: Abomination Carcass

  1. Flip to a new round inside the Exit 115 diner and stand close to this barrier. A zombie labeled "Cook" spawns from it, even on Ravager rounds.
  2. The Cook gives you a key to open this freezer and grab your Abomination Carcass.
  3. Build it onto Tesse at the crafting station in the Ashwood garage.

Part 4: Wonderwaffe Turret

This is the final part, and it needs three things: the Necrofluid Gauntlet, the Serum Blood Ritual and the three keys.

The Necrofluid Gauntlet

Use the Necrofluid Gauntlet solver for the symbols step.

  1. As long as you are above round 8, go near the storage container at spawn to get and defeat Uber Klaus, plus his core, for a stabilizer chip.
  2. In Ashwood's Sheriff's Office, insert it into Klaus's cell and wait for the "Update Required" message to show. Throw 2 stun grenades in rapid succession into the cell to stun and free him.
  3. At Zarya Cosmodrome's Underground Support Systems, hold your tactical button to place Klaus's circle in front of this control panel and summon him to activate it.
  4. Interact with the panel to activate a scanning circle. You must stand in it for a total of 30 seconds. The window in front of you slides down.
  5. Pick up the Aether Barrel. Tesse is required for transportation while you carry it. If you lose it, it returns to Zarya.
  6. Make sure all 3 power generators are on, then insert the barrel into each of them, one at a time, where it charges. After each one you are on a timer to pick up the barrel and deliver it to the next generator. After the final generator, deliver the barrel into the Cube under the Farm to activate it.
  7. Use the jump pads. While you are in the air, look back down toward the Farm to see 3 red symbols on the roofs. Remember them and insert them into the Cube, confirming by interacting with the eye. The solver covers the three symbols, one each from the tower, the barn and the house.
  8. Grab the Gauntlet. To keep it, clear the room of all green spores by shooting them and then reloading to suck them in.

Serum Blood Ritual

Use the blood ritual chalkboard code for the symbols step.

Collect 6 Parts

  • Human Bones: throw a combat axe at the ankle of the hanging zombie at Vandorn Farm, then throw a Molotov at the cut-off foot on the ground. You can now pick up the bones.
  • Hoard Hunk Chucks: while driving Tesse in the fog, pan around to search for the randomly spawning purple pods. Destroy one with the Abomination Beam for the part.
  • Widow's Lantern: pick up the jar of spores from Blackwater Cabin's kitchen. Place it on this horse at the Farm. After 3 rounds the spores have grown enough for you to pick them up.
  • Ravager Eyes: defeat a Ravager with any trap on any round.
  • Mysterious Limb: deal the finishing blow to a bear with the Abomination Beam. Tip: to spawn one before round 16, shoot the 3 skulls shown on screen at Zarya with the Gauntlet. The eyes glow green on each, and a bear spawns. Beam it to death to get the part.
  • Powder Of The Forgotten: buy Wisp Tea and kill until the ghost is active. Stand next to this mirror in the Tailor Shop at Ashwood and the ghost enters the mirror to reveal the Seal of Sorrow. Shoot the mirror with the wonder weapon to have it spit out the powder.

Start The Serum

  1. Head to Yuri's Lab at Zarya Cosmodrome and interact with the powder to start the serum.
  2. Symbols spawn on the board above. Using the top part of the cheat sheet, match the first symbol on each of the board's 3 lines, from top to bottom, and note the item that goes with each symbol.
  3. Interact with those items in that order in your game to submit the code. If you did it right, interact with the test tube to add blood and begin the ritual.
  4. If you do anything wrong, flip a round.
  5. During the ritual, stand in this corner, pop Toxic Growth and use your wonder weapon's explode ability to clear the room with ease.
  6. Finishing the ritual spawns the keys for the next step.

The 3 Keys

All three keys are in the foggy areas and require Tesse for transportation. Each can only be obtained by shooting and retracting a Gauntlet shot directly next to it. Each must be delivered to the Seal at the back of Ashwood on the Juggernog side before you die.

Yellow Bruin Key: at the crashed rocket on the way from Ashwood to Zarya.

  • Up on this cliff
  • On this crashed pole
  • On this building's ledge to the right, before entering Zarya

Until it is delivered, this key takes away your weapons and leaves you with melee only.

Red Nightbird Key: at the Orda Graveyard on the way from Ashwood to Exit 115.

  • In this dinosaur's neck bones, about right here
  • In this dinosaur's mouth between his teeth
  • Behind this tank

Until it is delivered, this key knocks you down to 50 HP and turns off standard health regeneration.

Green Terrapin Key: at the grounded ship on the way from Ashwood to the Farm.

  • On the ship, through this barrier
  • In the corner of this crate
  • Under the ship, between these two poles

Until it is delivered, this key slows your movement to a walk.

After all three keys are in the Seal, a cutscene plays. Then grab the Wonderwaffe barrel and build it onto Tesse in the garage to fully upgrade her.

Purple Clock Trial Challenges

A purple clock has now spawned above the garage. The first three challenges can be done in any order, but Blackwater Lake should be done last.

Purple charged shots. Whenever a step says to grab a purple or charged shot, this is what it means:

  • Every round, you can activate the purple clock above the Ashwood garage by shooting Tesse's Wonderwaffe at it.
  • Three times per round, once per side of the clock except the side angled down toward the garage, you can gain a purple energy charge. Shoot the Gauntlet at a side of the clock that has not been used yet, then suck the bullet back in to grab its charge.
  • You can switch weapons and shoot those, but shooting the Gauntlet dissipates the charge.

Exit 115 Clock And Electricity

This step has 4 parts, and the order matters.

  1. Wait for lightning to be striking Exit 115. If there is no active lightning, you can cause it yourself once per round. There are 3 turned-off streetlights in the area, and one of them has a small electrical spark. Shoot it with Tesse's Wonderwaffe and it overloads. Do this for all three turned-off streetlights and you hear and see lightning strike down.
  2. Shoot a purple charged shot at the clock on the Mechanic's roof, again only after the lightning begins striking. You then have 60 seconds to do as much of the next two steps as you can.
  3. Awaken your color-coded zombies. You can, and must, repeat steps 1 and 2 every round until you finish this area's challenge, but you only need to activate the zombies once. After the first time you can walk up to them to reawaken them the next round.
  4. Guide each zombie to its matching colored light on each roof.

How to awaken each zombie:

  • Mechanic: activate Klaus inside the Service Station, then summon him next to the mechanic lying on the floor here.
  • Trucker: smash Tesse into this crate to open it.
  • Waitress: go into the diner and melee this cash register to open it, not with the Gauntlet.

Where each zombie goes:

  • Mechanic goes into the yellow light
  • Trucker goes into the red light
  • Waitress goes into the blue light

After all 3, the lightning stops, you get a quote and you see red wisps.

Zarya Rocket Launch

Use the rocket launch code sheet to decipher your launch code.

  1. Get a purple charge and blast away to Zarya. You will notice two spinning radar dishes.
  2. Shoot the charge at one of them to slow it. Go back to Ashwood, grab a second charge, then slow and shoot the other dish. This activates the computers in the control room.
  3. Look at these two monitors and match any set of two flashed symbols to the cheat sheet to get your word. That word and its symbols go with a launch code, shown to the right of them on the sheet.
  4. Insert the launch code one number at a time from left to right by shooting the red button on each monitor. If you mess up, shoot the rest of the monitors to reset it for next round.
  5. A correct code launches the rocket after a screen flash.

Vandorn Farm Ritual Lockdown

  1. Get a purple charge and hop away to Vandorn Farm.
  2. Open the farmhouse and look at this clock, which reads 9, 12 or 3.
  3. Match the clock to a Roman numeral on the floor around the table, stand on it and put your Gauntlet crosshair on the farmer's head. He slowly turns toward you until his eyes glow red.
  4. Shoot his head to spawn some artifacts: the bear is upstairs on the bed, the mask is in the barn on this zombie, the chalice is on this ledge next to the tub in the cellar and the pigsticker is under the workbench in the shed.
  5. Place each item in the red circles outside, then interact with the final item a second time to begin a lockdown. You need to protect all 4 items from attacking zombies.
  6. When it is done, each item disappears into a red mist.
  7. If you fail, interact with the red circle and collect enough souls to try again next round.

Blackwater Lake Projector Reels

Use the projector reels reference for this step.

  1. Get a charged shot, then drive Tesse to Blackwater.
  2. Interact with this smoke by the Mystery Box at the back.
  3. In the cabin, shoot the purple shot at the projector to play a sequence. It shows the order in which you must shoot the reels.
  4. Each correct reel glows purple when shot. A wrong reel jump-scares you and forces a round flip.
  5. A cheat to make this easier: the front of the cabin is upstairs, the back of the cabin is outside by the ammo box, the boat house has the pointy roof and the tool shed has the flat roof.
  6. When all the reels are done, call in Klaus at the back, then summon him upstairs to this box to pick up the Deathwhistle.

Veytharion Boss Fight

The Driving Sequence

  1. To begin, interact with Klaus and give him about 20 seconds to blow his whistle, which summons all the pyramid souls onto the map. If you do not wait, you will fail this step because of missing souls.
  2. Hop into Tesse to start the boss fight. Drive the exact, never-changing path shown in the video to pick up all 12 red souls. Go slowly so you do not miss any.

Phase 1

Your main goal at all times is to keep driving Tesse in circles and grab the yellow barnacles to repair her, which reduces how often she breaks. Ram Tesse into the boss a few times to reveal a red weak spot. Keep doing this, aiming for the red spot whenever it is available for extra damage.

Phase 2

Phase 2 is very similar. Do the same as before, with two differences.

  • If the boss is doing a bomb attack, do not ram it right away. It bombs your head as it moves as part of the attack.
  • Mostly save your boosts for getting out of bad situations like the red bomb attack. You can also stay between the marked red circles for reduced damage.

Take your time and ram Tesse into the boss whenever it is reasonably safe.

Phase 3

Phase 3 adds purple mouths and a laser attack.

  • You have about 10 seconds from the moment a mouth starts a purple charge-up to the moment it lasers you and Tesse.
  • Never leave Tesse unless you are forced out, and then use her as a shield.
  • The boss may also pick up Tesse and throw her at you, or to the other side of the arena. Be ready.
  • All you have to do is keep smashing Tesse into the boss's purple mouths to deal damage and cancel the laser.
  • Sometimes there are two lit mouths. Hit one, then make a quick U-turn to smash into the other.
  • If you know you are not going to hit a mouth, try to boost to the other side of it. The laser still targets you but takes a bit longer to reach you and may not do as much damage.

If Tesse breaks

  • Repair her by holding interact for a few seconds, using your best tools like Monkeys and your field upgrade to cloak you.
  • Reminder: there is a free Max Ammo and armor plastered to the wall that you can suck in with the Gauntlet.

Finishing Each Phase

Keep as much pressure on Veytharion as possible by doing everything above in each stage. After you ram him enough in each of the three stages:

  1. The boss glows purple and starts spinning.
  2. Ram it again or use the Wonderwaffe. This spawns a purple light somewhere in the arena, and it despawns very quickly, so boost to it.
  3. Driving into the light charges Tesse.
  4. Ram the charged Tesse into the boss. It folds up and reveals a yellow weak spot in the middle of the arena.
  5. When this happens, use the Wonderwaffe to spray that spot.

Charging Tesse and then hitting the boss with the Wonderwaffe has to be done to complete each of the 3 phases, 2 times per phase. The second wave usually only needs 1 to 3 more bullets from the Wonderwaffe. You know a phase is done when a Max Ammo and full armor spawn on the outskirts, except at the end of phase 3, where you get a cutscene instead.

After The Easter Egg

After you finish the Easter egg, keep playing and interact with the tablet at Blackwater. It unlocks Cursed Mode relic research.
