Astra Malorum Main Easter Egg Guide, All Steps
Work In Progress: This guide is still being checked and expanded, so some details may change.
Every step of the Astra Malorum main quest Easter egg, in order: power and Oscar, the LGM-1 wonder weapon, Oscar's planets, the brain, the statues, Mars, the Mars bird, the piano pillars and the Caltheris boss fight. It is meant as a reference you can come back to at any time, and the video above covers the same steps in about 5 minutes.
The tools for this map are on the Astra Malorum tools page: the full map cheat sheet, the planet order solver, the statues solver and the pillar piano solver.
Power, Pack-A-Punch And Oscar
Turn on power and Pack-a-Punch as guided by the game. Quick recap:
- Activate the piano in the Observatory Dome. This pings a component next to a zombie in both The Luminarium and Machina Astralis.
- Retrieve those parts and place them into the piano, then hold interact to repair it.
- Interact again to start a defend. Completing it turns on power, unlocks Pack-a-Punch and spawns Oscar for the first time.
Important Oscar info
- Oscar only spawns at the beginning of a round and does not count as a round zombie.
- If Oscar is defeated, he respawns after you finish the round you are on plus one more full non-Max Ammo round.
- In standard mode you can spot Oscar, and even ping him, on your tac-map. For several steps you need to find him and shoot him now and then to keep him following you, so this tip is huge.
LGM-1 Wonder Weapon
Collect 4 Parts (Any Order)
- Car Battery: shoot a Pack-a-Punched weapon at Tesse in spawn.
- Aberrant Wires: locate and shoot one of the blinking lamp posts in the outside areas of the map.
- Damaged Drone Part: shoot down one of Oscar's drones.
- 3 Absolute Zero Fragments: use a weapon with the Cryofreeze ammo mod to shoot any 3 purple crystals around the map. You get one fragment from each crystal.
Defeat Oscar In 3 Traps (Any Order)
After the third trap you get the LGM-1.
The Luminarium laser trap
- Get Oscar, then interact with the trap twice: once to place down the parts from earlier and once to activate it.
- Run Oscar around the trap room until he is dead.
Museum Infinitum rocket trap
- Get Oscar and interact with the speaker side of the rocket display to place down your 3 fragments.
- Keep Oscar inside the trap's smoke blast as the countdown reaches zero to kill him.
Observatory Dome beam
- Listen closely and look at the 9 steaming valves: 2 on the upper catwalk, 4 around the main walls and pillars, 2 on the bottom and 1 outside next to the teleporter.
- Only one is active at a time, and it transfers the steam to the next after it is shot. Shoot 5 steaming valves in quick succession to align the telescope above Pack-a-Punch.
- Get a new Oscar to the area. Interact with the left side of the piano to go into the telescope, then locate the Sun and hover over it to shine a beam.
- Get Oscar into the beam and keep him there until he blows up.
Oscar's Planets
- Get above round 10 and find one more Oscar. Creep up behind him and avoid irritating him.
- He reads out eliminations 18, 7 and 12. Then listen for elimination 20, where Thurston speaks three planets.
- Wait for the 3 planets and note them in the order stated.
- Convert the planets to numbers by their position in the solar system, using the planet order solver or the cheat sheet.
- Insert the numbers into the machine in the Observatory Dome. Example: if he says Mercury, Earth, Venus, your code is 1-3-2.
- A correct code lowers the lift next to Pack-a-Punch. Jump on it to grab the hard-to-see key.
Transfer And Defend The Brain
- Go to Museum Infinitum and shoot the glass on this display case to pick up the saw.
- In the next room, at Machina Astralis, interact with the chamber to unlock it and expose a head. Hold interact to operate and cut out the brain.
- Go to The Luminarium and interact twice with the purple jar to swap its brain for the one you just picked up. This starts a defend.
- When it is done, pick up the brain and take it to Machina Astralis. Your movement speed is slowed to a walk while you carry it.
- Place it in the machine next to the teleporter, then hold interact to finish the connection.
Statues
Use the statues solver for this step.
- Read and note down all the book titles on the monitor to the left of the brain you just placed. Thurston's Reading List does not count as a book. It marks the beginning of the sequence.
- The books are on the bookshelves next to the statues in the next room, the Archive of Orbis: the statue in the corner next to the gramophone, the statue next to the banister before the drop-down and the statue next to the painting by the exit. Each statue is always next to the same 3 books every game.
- Note how many books from each statue's bookcase were shown on the monitor.
- You have a very limited amount of time once you start. Interact to turn each statue that many times.
- Example: if you get Witchlight Codex, The Black Veil and The Unknowable Void, that is 1 book from each bookcase, so turn each statue 1 time.
- If you fail, try again next round.
- If you did it right, go up the ladder, grab Neptune from the hole in the ceiling and place it on the pole up these stairs at Machina Astralis.
Unlocking Mars
- Head to the Observatory Dome and into the telescope by interacting with the left side of the piano.
- Locate Mars and record its DEC number as two separate numbers between the special characters. If a number is a single digit, put a zero in front of it. Example: if you get 46 then 1, your code is 4-6-0-1.
- At Machina Astralis, insert the code into the machine up the stairs from the armor wall buy.
- Find 3 pieces of paper that always spawn on the same tables: the Luminarium trap room, the Archive of Orbis and Machina Astralis upstairs on the armor side.
- The directions on the papers show how to align Neptune, Saturn and Mars on the ceiling of Machina Astralis. Shoot the planets with a bullet gun and get as close as possible to the directions. It will almost never be 100% accurate.
- If done correctly, interact with the brain to start the UFO lockdown.
- Destroy as many of the special beeping UFOs that Oscar sends out as you can before they hit the portal on top.
- If done correctly, the teleporter activates and takes you to Mars. You can teleport back at any point from the top of the steps.
Mars Bird
- At Mars, the brain canister falls from the sky at the center. Pick it up and place and build it on the machine upstairs. You hear an "ehhhhh" type noise coming from it.
- Shoot the 4 coils in the distance to spark them blue, waiting about a second between shots so a bird can travel to each. The order is: back right, back left, front right, front left.
- Then quickly shoot the one behind you above the teleporter.
- The bird is now in the map. Use wall jumping or low gravity jumping from different spots to eventually grab it.
- Never shoot at the bird. Keep shooting that final coil above you every 5 to 10 seconds until you retrieve the bird, so it does not leave.
- Once captured, place it right here.
Mars Piano Code Pillars
Use the pillar piano solver or the cheat sheet for this step.
- With the wonder weapon, shoot the Tesla coils on top of the 5 symbol pillars so UFOs activate them: 2 on the back left, 1 on the back right and 2 upstairs.
- Go to the Observatory Dome and interact with the right side of the piano. It plays a 5-symbol code. 4 of the flashes are symbols and 1 is static.
- Note the full 5-symbol sequence in the exact order it flashed, including where the static appeared.
- Teleport back to Mars from Machina Astralis and interact with the matching symbol pillars in that exact order. Fill in the static with the one symbol you are missing, in the position where the static appeared.
Caltheris Boss Fight
Interact with the brain at Mars to start the fight. You get no Max Ammo or armor during the fight, but an ammo box and an armor wall buy can be in the arena.
Phase 1: The Caltheris Skull
The skull has 3 mini phases. All of them require you to collect souls while avoiding every boss attack. When each mini phase is complete you get a white flash. At that point hold interact on the brain to fire at the skull.
- Mini phase 1: collect souls on the right side, avoiding zombies, mimics and lasers.
- Mini phase 2: collect souls on the left side, dealing with the lasers and lethal fire rocks that are marked by circles on the floor beforehand. Avoid the circles, the rocks and the fire pools they leave behind.
- Mini phase 3: collect souls on both sides again, with toxic zombies that can instantly kill you if they explode on you added, and gas that impairs your vision and limits your health to a maximum of 175 HP while you are in it.
After you laser the boss in mini phase 3, she falls to the ground.
Phases 2, 3 And 4
These phases are all on the ground and are very similar, but each gets harder.
- Use low gravity and keep your distance so you do not get slapped by the boss. Avoid the big slams, which instantly down you if you do not jump while one is happening.
- Keep dodging the rocks throughout every phase.
- Your main objective is to destroy the boss's armor first, which is best done with the wonder weapon, then pile as many bullets as possible into the revealed weak spot to complete the phase. Standard weapons are best for the weak spot.
- The first ground phase is Caltheris and is the most straightforward.
- After you beat her you get Caltheris Ascendent, who is a little faster but manageable.
- The final phase is Caltheris The Needle. Before it starts, a drop called Veytharion's Blessing can be found upstairs. It gives you infinite reserve ammo and lethals, and refills your tacticals once. Grab it.
- In addition to rocks, she now throws long-lasting, heavily damaging aether pools.
Take out the armor, shoot the weak spot, and the Easter egg is complete.
